Evidence first.
Limits visible.

Independent fan-made guide. Not affiliated with Cold Symmetry, Playstack, or the official Mortal Shell channels. Guides are reviewed by the Field Notes editorial desk. The desk name describes the site's source-review function; it is not a claim of developer access, professional game testing, or affiliation.

Who creates and reviews the guides

The Field Notes editorial desk researches, writes, updates, and corrects every page on this site. A visible desk byline appears on guide pages and links here so readers can inspect the method behind the answer. We do not invent a named player, test machine, playtime, or hands-on result when that evidence does not exist.

How evidence is graded

  • Official: developer or publisher announcements, patch notes, pinned staff posts, and the official Mortal Shell II site.
  • Platform: the Steam store, Steam discussions, and current platform metadata.
  • Technical reference: sources such as PCGamingWiki, SteamDB cloud-save records, and NVIDIA's shader-cache reference.
  • Independent reporting: named authors who disclose hardware, route, version, or test method.
  • Community: useful for finding symptoms and disagreement, never sufficient by itself to establish a universal cause or fix.

How a troubleshooting page is built

First, the current patch establishes what the developer says changed. Next, platform and technical records confirm paths, requirements, or supported features. Independent tests are compared only when their hardware and method are visible. Community threads are then used to identify reproducible symptom language. The finished page separates confirmed facts, diagnostic tests, reports, and unknowns.

What this site has not tested

Unless a page explicitly provides a test machine, build, route, and result, it is a source synthesis rather than a first-hand benchmark. Settings pages provide conservative baselines, not guaranteed FPS. Recovery pages cannot inspect private saves or promise lost progress will return. Route guides label disagreements instead of turning them into certainty.

How freshness is handled

Published and updated dates are separate. A date changes only when the answer, evidence, or decision path changes. Patch-sensitive pages display their build context. Older launch advice remains historical when a newer update supersedes it.

Official media and rights

Released screenshots come from the official media gallery, retain visible credit, and are used with original guide context. Site illustrations are labeled as illustrations. Media use is reviewed against Playstack's content and video policy.

Corrections and ownership

Corrections should identify the page, platform, installed build, disputed sentence, and a source or reproducible observation. Rights holders can use the same channel for media or trademark concerns. The monitored address is contact@gamefieldnotes.com.
