Quick answer

After the prologue, use Marrow Keep as your hub and take the open gate to Fainweald. Start at Widow's Overlook, collect the nearby map and Tiel Shell to the south, then work north toward another map, Blackridge Pass and Proxima. Cleanse beacons and gather enough Ova to unlock Mether's Breath and fast travel before committing to a distant region.

Evidence and limits

Method: Official or platform documentation establishes changeable facts; independent guides and community reports are used only to cross-check routes, symptoms, or disagreement.

Evidence boundary: This is a source review, not a claim that every step was reproduced on every platform or hardware configuration.

Do this first

  1. Finish the prologue and check every service in Marrow Keep.
  2. Take the open Fainweald gate to Widow's Overlook; the Mammon route is still blocked.
  3. Sweep south for the Fainweald map, Tiel Shell and the optional Martyr's Tomb dungeon.
  4. Return north for the next map, Blackridge Pass and the nearby Proxima Shell route.
  5. Cleanse Blackridge Pass, Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate beacons as your next progression chain.
  6. Return to Marrow Keep after gathering enough Ova to unlock Mether's Breath and beacon fast travel.
01

First direction: Fainweald

From the top of Marrow Keep, use the cleared teleporter gate overlooking Fainweald. The route toward Ruins of Mammon is blocked by corrupted growths at this stage, so forcing that direction only creates an early dead end.

02

Widow's Overlook to the first map and Shell

Widow's Overlook is the first active Fainweald beacon. The muddy grave area behind it contains the Gloombound Flame and a Revered Gland near the Great Arbiter of Flesh; the miniboss can be avoided if you only want the pickups. Continue south to reach a Ruk map marker and Tiel's shallow grave. Treat those as the first useful route anchors rather than trying to clear the whole region at once.

03

Where to go next

Return toward Widow's Overlook and head north. The two rope-bridge routes lead toward another region map, Blackridge Pass and the structure containing Proxima. Once you have two Shell choices and multiple beacons, the next practical goal is cleansing the Blackridge Pass, Mushroom Village and Mushroom Village Gate beacon dungeons for Ova and progression.

04

Why maps, beacons and Ova belong together

Ruk's maps reveal local zones; beacons create repeatable checkpoints and later fast-travel destinations; Ova advances the Marrow Keep systems. After enough Ova are siphoned at the hub, Mether's Breath removes corrupted growths and unlocks beacon fast travel, turning the scattered opening routes into a manageable network.

05

Learn one defensive rhythm

Mortal Shell II removes the normal stamina restriction from attacks, but that does not make every commitment safe. Use Harden to absorb a response while maintaining pressure, then learn when an enemy's posture opens a critical window.

06

Spend to improve a common action

Early upgrades have more value when they improve attacks or defenses you use in every encounter. Avoid splitting limited resources across several Shells and weapons before one loadout feels reliable.

  • One Shell
  • One primary weapon
  • One repeatable defensive answer
  • One short exploration objective
